Moovn Technologies and Mastercard have signed a five-year agreement to expand digital payment services across East Africa, integrating prepaid cards, merchant payment processing and cross-border transfers into MoovnPay’s digital wallet and its wider mobility, logistics and e-commerce platforms.

Signed in Nairobi on October 19, 2026, the partnership will connect Moovn’s East African operations with Mastercard’s global payments network, supporting consumers, drivers and businesses through expanded digital financial services.

Under the agreement, Mastercard’s Pay Local service will enable participating merchants to accept payments from MoovnPay users. Eligible customers will also gain access to international money transfers through Mastercard Move, broadening the range of financial services available through the platform.

The partnership builds on MoovnPay’s selection for Mastercard’s Start Path Emerging Fintech programme in September 2025, followed by the launch of Mastercard Payment Gateway Services (MPGS) in Kenya.

The next phase will introduce prepaid Mastercard cards through Shooga, Moovn’s fundraising and peer-to-peer payments platform. The companies also plan to expand Pay Local across Kenya and Tanzania while extending payment processing, tokenisation and wallet services throughout Moovn’s operations.

Mastercard’s Shehryar Bakht Ali highlighted the partnership’s potential to open new pathways into the digital economy, while Moovn CEO Godwin Gabriel outlined plans to develop an integrated financial and lifestyle ecosystem.

The agreement comes as digital payments continue to play a significant role in Kenya’s small business sector. Mastercard’s 2026 SME Confidence Index found that 95% of Kenyan small and medium-sized enterprises accept mobile payments, while 80% identified simple, user-friendly payment methods as a requirement for future growth.

The partnership is expected to broaden access to digital payment tools and connect Moovn’s mobility, logistics and commerce services with Mastercard’s international payment infrastructure.
