Huawei has announced plans to expand its cloud data centre footprint in Africa, targeting East and West Africa as the next regions for development. This expansion will complement the existing data centres in the northern and southern parts of the continent, further enhancing Huawei’s presence in the African market.

James Sindani, Cloud Solutions Architect at Huawei Kenya, shared these plans during the Unitech Talk virtual session, which focused on the potential of cloud and artificial intelligence. Sindani also highlighted Huawei Cloud’s recent expansion into Egypt, marking the company’s entry into North Africa.

Huawei has been a pioneer in the African data centre market, establishing one of the first hyperscale data centres in South Africa, the continent’s largest economy, in 2019. In Kenya, Huawei operates a point-of-presence site with a dedicated connection to South Africa, ensuring clients experience minimal latency and optimal speed.

Sindani confirmed that Huawei is planning further expansion into both West and East Africa, aiming to enhance cloud service accessibility across the continent. Currently, Huawei’s cloud services rank as the second-largest in China and the fifth-largest globally, reflecting the company’s significant impact in the cloud computing industry.

This expansion signifies Huawei’s commitment to strengthening its cloud infrastructure in Africa, supporting the continent’s growing digital economy and increasing the availability of high-speed, reliable cloud services.
