Ghana is positioning itself at the forefront of Africa’s artificial intelligence revolution, with the government unveiling an ambitious vision to transform the country into a leading AI hub on the continent. During a strategic engagement with PwC Ghana, the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging emerging technologies as key drivers of economic growth, innovation, and national development.
A central focus of the discussions was the implementation of Ghana’s newly launched National AI Strategy, which identifies agriculture, healthcare, education, and governance as priority sectors for AI adoption. The strategy aims to address critical national challenges, including improving food security, expanding access to healthcare through telemedicine, reducing educational inequalities, and enhancing efficiency and transparency across public sector institutions.
One of the most significant announcements was Cabinet’s approval of a $250 million investment to develop national compute infrastructure and AI-powered applications. This funding is expected to provide innovators, startups, researchers, and academic institutions with affordable access to high-performance computing resources, creating a strong foundation for AI research, development, and commercialization within Ghana’s growing technology ecosystem.
Beyond infrastructure, the government is also prioritizing innovation financing and regulatory reform. Plans are underway to establish a government-backed revolving innovation fund designed to attract private investment and venture capital into the technology sector. At the same time, legislative reforms will strengthen regulatory institutions and introduce innovation sandboxes that support emerging industries such as fintech, healthtech, and agritech, enabling innovators to test and scale new solutions more effectively.
The engagement with PwC Ghana highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration in accelerating digital transformation. Both parties expressed a shared commitment to supporting AI deployment, capacity building, startup growth, and investment mobilization. As Ghana advances its AI strategy and digital transformation agenda, the country is taking bold steps toward building a more innovative, competitive, and inclusive digital economy capable of creating long-term opportunities for businesses and citizens alike.
