Dorcas Oduor, has made history as Kenya’s first female Attorney-General, officially sworn in on August 20, 2024. Her appointment marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s legal landscape, reflecting the growing inclusivity within the country’s top legal positions.
Appointed by President William Samoei Ruto PHD and approved by the National Assembly, Ms. Oduor will serve as the principal legal advisor to the government. With over 30 years of legal experience, Ms. Oduor’s career is distinguished by her tenure as a senior prosecutor in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. She was admitted to the bar in 1992, following her law degree in 1990 and a postgraduate diploma from the Kenya School of Law in 1991.
Ms. Oduor’s extensive legal background includes serving as Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions and contributing to key commissions such as the Akiwumi Commission on Land Clashes and the Bosire Commission on the Goldenberg Affair. Her involvement in high-profile cases, including the fraud case against Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, showcases her commitment to upholding justice.
