Visa has announced an exciting new partnership with Carrefour, offering Visa cardholders exclusive discounts and giveaways for weekend shopping. This initiative provides Visa cardholders with a chance to receive assorted giveaways for purchases worth KES 5,000 or more at participating Carrefour stores, or KES 500 savings on online orders of KES 4,000 and above through the Carrefour app. This promotion runs until August 18 for in-store purchases and September 15 for online orders.
Eva Ngigi-Sarwari, Visa’s Country Manager for Kenya, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to be partnering with Carrefour to reward loyal Visa cardholders and enhance their shopping experience.” Ngigi-Sarwari emphasized that this campaign is part of Visa’s broader strategy to improve the payment experience at key retail partners and drive digital payment adoption across Kenya.
Christophe Orcet, Regional Director – East Africa at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, echoed the positive sentiment, saying, “Our partnership with Visa aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing added convenience and value.” Orcet highlighted that the integration of Visa’s advanced payment solutions with Carrefour’s extensive retail network aims to offer a rewarding shopping experience that meets the needs of modern consumers.
This campaign is set against a backdrop of increasing transactions at point-of-sale (POS) terminals and online platforms. Data from the Central Bank of Kenya shows a notable rise in card transactions, with February 2024 recording nearly 5 million transactions, up from 3.9 million in February 2023 and 3.66 million in February 2022.
Visa and Carrefour’s collaboration underscores a significant shift towards digital payment solutions and highlights the growing trend of integrating advanced technology into everyday shopping experiences. The initiative not only rewards consumers but also reflects the evolving landscape of retail and payment systems in Kenya.
With this campaign, Visa and Carrefour are not only enhancing customer satisfaction but also contributing to the overall growth of digital payment adoption in the region. The partnership promises to set a new standard for retail promotions and customer engagement.
