M-Pesa Foundation Partners with Getrude’s Hospital a For Telemedicine Program

Today marks the launch of the groundbreaking Daktari Smart telemedicine program, aimed at revolutionizing healthcare access for over 32,000 children in underserved areas of Samburu, Homabay, Baringo, and Lamu Counties. With plans to expand to two additional counties in the next phase, this initiative promises to bridge the gap in specialist care for children in remote regions.

The project’s primary objective is to alleviate the burden of referrals for sick children by enabling county health facilities to connect with specialists remotely. By leveraging telemedicine technology, Daktari Smart optimizes healthcare delivery systems, ensuring timely access to qualified medical professionals, even in areas with limited resources.

With the doctor to patient ratio in Kenya standing at approximately 1:6,355, accessing specialized healthcare can be challenging, especially in rural settings. Daktari Smart aims to address this disparity by providing real-time consultations and diagnostic support, empowering local healthcare workers to deliver quality care effectively.

With a commitment of over KES 168 million from M-PESA Foundation and KES 35 million from Gertrude’s Hospital Foundation, this initiative underscores a shared vision to transform communities through innovative healthcare solutions. Together, we strive to ensure every child receives the care they deserve, regardless of their geographic location.
