Uganda achieves a record trade surplus of $53.07 million with DR Congo in January, as reported by the Ministry of Finance. While exports to East Africa Community (EAC) states increase, deficits with Tanzania and Kenya persist.
However, the EAC remains the top destination for Uganda’s exports, comprising 37.6% of the total market share.
Overall, Uganda’s total exports in December increase slightly, driven by higher earnings from Simsim, tobacco, and cotton.
Yet, coffee exports decline due to weather-related challenges. Meanwhile, imports decrease, notably from Asia, with China and India being major contributors.
The Ministry’s report underscores Uganda’s evolving trade dynamics within the region and highlights areas of growth and challenges in its export-import landscape.
