Oracle, an American technology corporation, has unveiled its intention to establish a worldwide data center in Nairobi. This announcement came following a meeting between President William Ruto and a delegation from the company, led by Scott Twaddle, Senior Vice-President (OCI Product and Industries), on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
In a statement, Ruto emphasized that Kenya’s initiatives, including the deployment of 100,000 kilometers of fiber optic, the creation of digital employment opportunities, and the digitization of governmental services, have attracted numerous global IT firms. He expressed satisfaction that Oracle, an American entity, is planning to establish a global data center in Nairobi, reinforcing Kenya’s position as an attractive destination for international technology companies.
Ruto highlighted the significance of the data center’s establishment in driving the digital transformation of various sectors in Kenya, including government operations, public institutions, businesses, and startups. He underscored Oracle’s commitment to Africa through its planned public cloud region in Nairobi, aiming to facilitate the digital advancement of these sectors in the country.
