Ebuka discovered Selar, a digital creator marketplace, when he sought to sell his coloring book. Founded in 2016 by Douglas Kendyson, Selar offers creators various tools like a wallet and delivery assistance while charging a 4% commission. Since joining Selar a year ago, Ebuka has generated ₦400,000 ($443) in revenue from his coloring books.
Emmanuel, a part-time author, also found success with Selar, selling 100 copies of his book in the first month and making substantial earnings. In Africa’s creator economy, Selar stands out, with creators earning over ₦4 billion ($4.4 million) in 2023, twice the amount from the previous year.
With 150,000 creators selling various products on its platform, Selar addresses the challenge of payment processing for African creators, partnering with global payment providers and offering a “Show Love” feature for receiving tips and donations.
