Sky Energy Africa launched Malawi’s first integrated electric mobility ecosystem on 30 October 2026, bringing together 100 electric vehicles, 40 public charging stations and a digital platform connecting passengers, vehicles and charging infrastructure.
The initiative combines three main components: an electric vehicle fleet to expand access to sustainable transport, public charging infrastructure to support electric vehicle adoption, and Sky eRide, a digital platform that connects users to mobility and charging services through one application.
Through Sky eRide, passengers can book electric vehicle rides without owning a car. Electric vehicle owners can also use the platform to locate available charging stations, initiate charging sessions by scanning QR codes and make payments through supported payment gateways.
The company said the ecosystem is designed to make electric mobility accessible to more people, including individuals who cannot afford to purchase an electric vehicle but can use the service as passengers.
The launch comes as Malawi faces energy and fuel challenges. Electric mobility offers an alternative that could help reduce dependence on imported petroleum, lower transportation operating costs and support a cleaner transport sector.
Sky Energy Africa said developing the ecosystem will require continued collaboration among government institutions, regulators, private-sector players and development partners to accelerate the adoption of electric transportation.
The company also plans to expand its infrastructure, strengthen public confidence and make electric mobility a more practical transport option for Malawians.
The launch brings together vehicles, charging infrastructure and digital services within one system, creating a connected model for electric transportation in Malawi.
