Bolt has partnered with Vodacom Tanzania to introduce a “Ride Now Pay Later” service that allows M-PESA customers in Tanzania to request and pay for Bolt rides on credit.
The initiative is designed to give millions of M-PESA customers access to transport services even when they do not have sufficient funds to pay upfront. The companies describe the service as a first for Africa.
The offering aims to help customers meet immediate mobility needs, including essential journeys such as hospital visits, by allowing them to complete rides and settle the payment later.
According to M-PESA Africa, the partnership supports its ambition to connect customers with more opportunities by reducing financial barriers that may prevent them from accessing essential services and transport.
The service introduces an alternative payment arrangement for Bolt users, linking ride-hailing services with M-PESA’s mobile financial ecosystem.
However, the announcement did not disclose details about credit limits, repayment periods, eligibility requirements or the terms governing the service.
The partnership brings together Bolt’s ride-hailing platform and Vodacom Tanzania’s M-PESA service to expand access to transport through a credit-based payment option.
