Samuel Munyua has been appointed Chief Financial Officer of Safaricom Ethiopia Telecommunications PLC, moving from his previous position as Group Financial Controller at Safaricom PLC.
Munyua joined Safaricom in October 2021 and has played a role in several major financing and corporate finance transactions during his tenure.
He helped establish Safaricom’s KSh40 billion medium-term note programme, which included the inaugural KSh20 billion (approximately $155 million) green bond issuance. He also led debt-financing mandates valued at approximately $650 million.
In his previous role, Munyua led the finance workstream for a transaction that brought an additional shareholder into Safaricom Ethiopia. His responsibilities also included capital management, investments, financial reporting and corporate finance.
Before joining Safaricom, Munyua established the Treasury Middle Office at Barclays Bank Kenya before moving to KCB Bank Group, where he served as Finance Director.
Munyua is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Nairobi. He has also completed executive programmes at Harvard Business School and London Business School.
His appointment places an experienced finance executive at the helm of Safaricom Ethiopia’s finance function as the telecommunications business continues its operations in the Ethiopian market.
