Telekom Networks Malawi (TNM) has acquired the OCL data centre in Kanengo, Lilongwe, in a move aimed at strengthening its digital infrastructure and supporting the expansion of digital services across Malawi.
The telecommunications operator said the acquisition will enhance its infrastructure base while supporting improved service quality, reliable internet solutions and the growth of enterprise services, including Data Centre as a Service.
The facility is also expected to provide a foundation for developing new digital services, including TNM’s Mpamba digital financial services platform, while supporting emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and AI-as-a-Service.
TNM said the investment forms part of its broader growth strategy and aligns with Malawi’s long-term development ambitions under the Malawi 2063 agenda.
The expanded infrastructure capacity is expected to help TNM create greater value for customers while supporting Malawi’s transition towards a digitally enabled middle-income economy.
The acquisition highlights the growing role of data centre infrastructure in enabling digital financial services, enterprise connectivity, cloud-based solutions and emerging technologies across Africa.
