Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has called on the Nigerian Army to strengthen its use of data and artificial intelligence (AI) as strategic tools for intelligence, decision-making and operational effectiveness.
NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi made the call during the Nigerian Army’s 4th Data Management and Record Keeping Seminar 2026, themed “From Data to Decision Advantage: Digital Transformation, Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Warfare.”
Inuwa said AI could help reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, streamline workflows and allow military personnel to focus on critical strategic and operational responsibilities.
He also urged Nigeria’s defence sector to strengthen digital sovereignty by reducing excessive reliance on foreign commercial platforms and investing in sovereign digital infrastructure and locally developed technologies.
The NITDA Director-General further called for stronger military-civilian partnerships and an enterprise-wide approach to digital transformation supported by clear objectives, efficient processes and a skilled workforce.
The discussions highlighted the growing role of data and AI in modern defence, with greater emphasis being placed on the ability to convert data into actionable intelligence and faster decision-making.
