The Government of Ghana has donated an additional 2,000 laptops to the University of Ghana under the One Million Coders Programme (OMCP), bringing the total number of devices supplied to the institution to 2,500 as it expands digital skills training across the country.
The laptops were presented during a ceremony at the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP), led by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George.
According to the ministry, the devices will provide students with the tools required to develop practical skills in high-demand digital fields, including coding, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, software development and data analytics.
The government said the One Million Coders Programme is a flagship initiative designed to equip one million Ghanaians with industry-relevant digital skills, strengthening employability, driving innovation and supporting the country’s long-term digital and economic transformation.
Speaking during the handover, Minister George encouraged beneficiaries to use the laptops to build innovative digital solutions, launch technology-driven businesses and contribute to Ghana’s growing digital economy.
