The Government of Japan has donated Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment to 15 Colleges of Education across Nigeria through a UNESCO-led initiative aimed at strengthening teacher training, improving digital literacy and expanding access to quality education.

The ICT equipment was officially handed over during a ceremony at Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja as part of the Japan-funded project, Capacity Building of Teachers to Promote Continuous and Inclusive Access to Safe and Quality Education for Girls in West Africa. The initiative is being implemented in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Education and the UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (UNESCO-IICBA).

Under the programme, the beneficiary institutions received laptops, tablets, desktop computers, smart boards, projectors, printers and backup hard drives to modernise teacher education and promote technology-enabled learning. The project aims to strengthen the capacity of teacher training institutions while improving digital skills and supporting gender-responsive teaching practices.

The initiative places particular emphasis on expanding access to safe, inclusive and quality education for girls and other vulnerable learners by equipping educators with the digital tools needed to deliver more effective and engaging learning experiences.

The donation reflects Japan’s continued commitment to supporting education and digital transformation across Africa while strengthening teacher capacity and helping build a more inclusive and technology-driven education system in Nigeria.
