Morocco has officially launched 5G connectivity, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey. The three main telecom operators — Maroc Telecom, Orange Maroc, and Inwi — have switched on their fifth-generation networks, providing ultra-fast and reliable connectivity across the Kingdom. This rollout comes just weeks ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025), where advanced network capabilities will be crucial to support broadcasting and the influx of fans visiting the country.
The new 5G networks deliver speeds above 2 Gbps, ultra-low latency, and enhanced network capacity, enabling a wide range of digital applications. This initiative is part of Morocco 2030, the national strategy aiming for 25% population coverage by the end of 2025 and 70% by 2030. Orange Maroc has already activated 5G across 135 cities and towns, highlighting the rapid expansion and accessibility of next-generation connectivity for Moroccan residents.
Maroc Telecom, the country’s dominant operator with 18.9 million subscribers, confirmed full nationwide 5G coverage. Compatible smartphone users automatically gain access to the network without needing SIM card replacements. The operator has also introduced affordable 5G plans starting from $13 (119 dirhams), offering access to premium digital content including beIN SPORTS, StarzPlay, and Glovo Prime. Inwi similarly confirmed its users can enjoy 5G connectivity at no additional cost or subscription changes.
Beyond enhancing consumer experiences, Morocco’s 5G rollout is expected to drive innovation across key economic sectors such as healthcare, education, logistics, and entertainment. Faster, more stable connectivity will enable businesses and institutions to leverage advanced technologies, improve operational efficiency, and deliver digital services at scale. The upcoming AFCON tournament will provide a large-scale test of the technology, supporting real-time broadcasting, data-heavy applications, and enhanced fan experiences.
According to Orange Maroc CEO Hendrik Kasteel, Morocco’s 5G network lays the foundation for smarter cities, connected industries, and a more inclusive digital future. The nationwide launch represents a pivotal moment for Morocco’s technological development, reinforcing the Kingdom’s position as a leader in African digital innovation and setting the stage for sustainable, long-term growth.
