Revolut has appointed Yacine Faqir as Chief Executive Officer for its Morocco operations, a move that underscores the fintech’s strategic focus on expanding its footprint in North Africa. His leadership arrival comes at a time when Revolut is intensifying its efforts to bring digital banking and payments services into emerging African markets.

Faqir joins Revolut from Mastercard where he served as Vice-President of Products and Solutions for North and Francophone Africa. In that role, he oversaw product strategy including consumer cards, SME solutions, tokenisation, digital enablement and new payment flows such as remittances and account-to-account transfers across banking, fintech and telco partners.

His career prior to Mastercard includes substantial experience in credit infrastructure and consulting, having served as Country Manager for Quantik DBCB Credit Bureau (a Dun & Bradstreet affiliate) in Morocco and as a consultant for the World Bank and various fintechs and startups. He holds academic qualifications in international relations and diplomacy from University of Westminster and a master’s in finance and business international from KEDGE Business School.

In his new role, Faqir will lead Revolut’s market entry efforts in Morocco, responsible for securing regulatory approvals, tailoring global product suites to local consumer and regulatory realities, building the local team and establishing partnerships with financial institutions and fintechs. The appointment reflects Revolut’s ambition to leverage Morocco’s evolving fintech ecosystem and to deliver innovative, accessible financial solutions in the region.

This leadership appointment aligns with Revolut’s broader expansion strategy across the African continent. As the company seeks to tap into new growth markets, the selection of a local leader with deep regional experience signals its commitment to combining global fintech innovation with local relevance and compliance. The move holds potential for accelerating digital-financial inclusion and payments innovation in Morocco and beyond.
