Mastercard is supporting the launch of Samsung Pay in Morocco, expanding access to secure and convenient mobile payment options for consumers.

Enabled by Mastercard’s tokenisation technology, the service allows eligible Mastercard cardholders at participating banks to make payments using compatible Samsung devices.

The launch builds on Mastercard’s collaboration with financial institutions and technology partners to advance Morocco’s digital payments ecosystem. By extending its payment capabilities to Samsung Pay, Mastercard aims to broaden consumer choice and support the integration of digital payments into everyday commerce.

Samsung Pay uses Mastercard’s tokenisation technology, which replaces sensitive card details with a unique digital token to help protect payment credentials during transactions. Authentication and risk-based safeguards provide additional layers of protection, allowing consumers to make payments securely.

The launch also supports Mastercard’s global ambition to tokenise 100% of online transactions by 2030. The company continues to work with financial institutions and technology partners to make digital payments more secure and accessible.

Mohamed Benomar, Country Manager of North West Africa at Mastercard, said the launch would expand access to secure digital payment experiences through the Mastercard Digital Enablement Service (MDES).

For consumers, Samsung Pay allows supported transactions using compatible Samsung smartphones or smartwatches without requiring a physical payment card. Participating banks can offer the service to eligible cardholders, while merchants accepting supported contactless payments can accommodate the additional payment option.

Hongseok Lee, President of Samsung Electronics Maghreb Arab, said the launch represents another step in providing Galaxy users with convenient and secure payment experiences.

Mastercard and Samsung will also introduce a joint campaign in Morocco to encourage everyday adoption of Samsung Pay. The initiative will combine promotional activities with consumer education on making payments using compatible Samsung devices.

The campaign aims to support the continued growth of digital payments across the country.
