Cameroon Regulator Meets Mobile Operators Over Network Performance and Coverage
Cameroon’s Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ART) has held a working session with the country’s major mobile operators, MTN Cameroon and Orange Cameroon, to review network performance, security and telecommunications coverage.
The meeting was chaired by ART Director General Professor Philémon Zoo Zame on September 10, 2026, at the Platinum Building. MTN Cameroon Director General Wanda Matandela and Orange Cameroon Director General Patrick Benon attended alongside senior representatives from the regulator and the two operators.
Discussions focused on key priorities for Cameroon’s electronic communications sector, including quality of service, customer experience, network security and equitable access to telecommunications services.
The regulator and operators reviewed measures already implemented and recommendations aimed at improving network performance and delivering a better experience for subscribers. Network security was also discussed, including ongoing consultations with government agencies on telecommunications infrastructure security and subscriber identification.
Territorial coverage was another major focus of the session. Professor Zoo Zame emphasised the importance of extending telecommunications networks to underserved areas while ensuring operators comply with existing regulations.
ART said expanding coverage would contribute to reducing Cameroon’s digital divide and provide citizens across the country with more equitable access to electronic communications services.
The engagement comes as Cameroon continues to advance its digitalisation agenda. ART said sustained dialogue between the regulator, operators and other stakeholders will remain important in addressing industry challenges and supporting the development of the country’s electronic communications ecosystem.
The discussions highlight the growing importance of reliable, secure and widely accessible telecommunications infrastructure as Cameroon expands its digital economy.
