Spiro, an African electric mobility company, has signed a strategic partnership with Yadea, a global manufacturer of electric two-wheelers, to expand accessible and sustainable electric transport across Africa.
The partnership combines Yadea’s manufacturing and research and development capabilities with Spiro’s operational network and battery-swapping ecosystem across seven African countries. The companies aim to establish a scalable and commercially sustainable electric vehicle framework serving commercial fleet operators, delivery businesses, logistics providers and daily commuters in rapidly growing mobility markets.
Under the agreement, Yadea will supply electric two-wheelers and related electric vehicle products tailored to Spiro’s regional markets. Spiro will integrate the vehicles into its proprietary battery-swapping and energy infrastructure, allowing riders to replace depleted batteries with fully charged units in a short period.
The companies also plan to co-develop customised electric two-wheeler platforms designed for local road conditions and commercial applications across Africa. The collaboration is intended to combine global manufacturing scale with local operating knowledge and infrastructure.
The partnership further strengthens the China-Africa technology and mobility connection by bringing together Yadea’s production capabilities and Spiro’s experience in African markets. Both companies said the collaboration will support the expansion of affordable, low-emission transport options.
Spiro Founder and Equitane Chairman Gagan Gupta said the partnership supports the company’s mission of building the energy and mobility foundation for Africa’s green transition. Spiro CEO Anant Badjatya said the collaboration will help accelerate the adoption of affordable electric vehicles and expand the company’s climate impact.
Yadea Senior Vice President Wang Jiazhong described Africa as a major opportunity for zero-emission transport and said the partnership would combine global innovation with local infrastructure to deliver sustainable mobility solutions.
Founded in China, Yadea has sold more than 100 million electric vehicles across more than 100 countries. The company operates 10 exclusive production facilities globally and has registered more than 2,000 patents related to electric vehicle technology.
The partnership comes as Spiro advances its regional growth following a recent $270 million funding round that included investment from NewTrails Capital, a Chinese fund.
Spiro is developing an integrated electric mobility ecosystem that combines electric motorcycles with a battery-swapping network. The model enables riders to exchange depleted batteries for charged ones in minutes, helping reduce charging downtime and improve vehicle utilisation.
The collaboration with Yadea is expected to support the development of electric mobility solutions for urban transport, commercial fleets, delivery services and logistics operations across Africa.
