Gabon has strengthened its national cybersecurity preparedness through a simulated cyberattack exercise involving several government administrations.
Held on September 11, 2026, at the headquarters of the Agence Nationale des Infrastructures Numériques et des Fréquences (ANINF), the national cybersecurity exercise was designed to test the country’s ability to detect, respond to and coordinate actions during a cyber incident.
The simulation placed participating teams in a realistic cyberattack scenario, requiring them to analyse the threat, activate response procedures and coordinate their actions. The exercise provided an opportunity to evaluate existing cyber defence mechanisms while identifying areas that require further improvement.
The initiative was led by ANINF Director-General Alberto Mounguengui Moudoki and forms part of the strategic partnership between Gabon and the United States. MITRE Corporation provided technical support for the exercise.
By involving multiple government administrations, the simulation assessed not only individual response capabilities but also the level of coordination between institutions. This approach is intended to strengthen Gabon’s ability to manage complex cyber incidents through a more coordinated national response.
ANINF said the exercise goes beyond a practical simulation by providing an assessment of the collective preparedness of government administrations. The findings can help identify measures needed to develop a more proactive, coordinated and resilient national cybersecurity framework.
The initiative also supports Gabon’s broader efforts to strengthen digital security and build greater digital sovereignty. As government services and critical infrastructure become increasingly dependent on digital systems, coordinated cybersecurity preparedness is becoming an important component of national resilience.
ANINF said the exercise aligns with President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema’s vision of a more sovereign, resilient and secure Gabon in the digital space.
