Ghana’s telecommunications sector is entering a new phase of corporate governance following the inauguration of a new Board of Directors for Airtel Ghana Limited and PPL Net Ghana Limited.
Ghana’s Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations formally inaugurated the board during a ceremony led by Minister Samuel Nartey George, with senior government and industry officials in attendance, including State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) Director General Prof. Michael Kpessa-Whyte.
The newly appointed directors have been tasked with restoring formal corporate governance structures and establishing a stronger foundation for the long-term operations of the two companies. Key priorities include addressing outstanding audited accounts, updating corporate records with the Registrar of Companies and ensuring compliance with relevant corporate requirements.
Prof. Kpessa-Whyte urged the board to improve operational efficiency and maximise the value of the companies’ existing assets. He also called for the entities to be positioned as competitive telecommunications players capable of generating sustainable returns and dividends for the Ghanaian public.
The new board comprises Hilary Denise Arko-Dadzie, Eric Yaw Nsarkoh, Dr Faith Setor Quashigah, Lawrence Attipoe, Gabriel Opoku-Asare and Leo Skarlatos. Following the administration of the Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy, the directors formally assumed their responsibilities.
Board Chair Hilary Denise Arko-Dadzie said the board brings together international experience and local expertise. She outlined a commitment to corporate governance, accountability and digital innovation, while emphasising the importance of demonstrating Ghanaian expertise in developing globally competitive telecommunications institutions.
The inauguration represents a renewed governance framework for Airtel Ghana and PPL Net Ghana. The government expects the new leadership to strengthen operational performance, improve market competitiveness, enhance service delivery and create greater value for the Ghanaian public.
