The Transport Company of the Democratic Republic of Congo (TRANSCO) has launched the pilot phase of an electronic ticketing system featuring secure digital tickets and QR codes, marking a new step in the company’s efforts to modernise operations and improve revenue management.

The pilot programme was officially launched on August 31, 2026, in Masina’s Quartier 3, where TRANSCO Director General Jérémie Kilubu Matondo scanned the first digital ticket QR code.

According to TRANSCO, the new system is expected to provide greater control and visibility over daily ticket revenue by enabling the company to accurately track the number of tickets sold.

The digital platform will also introduce automated monitoring of ticket inspectors. Information including an inspector’s name, employee identification number and time of service will be recorded on TRANSCO’s digital dashboard, strengthening operational oversight and accountability.

Another key benefit is the consolidation of multiple paper tickets into a single digital ticket. On routes such as Line 31 between Masina Quartier 3 and Maluku, passengers previously received multiple tickets for a single journey. The electronic system is designed to simplify the process into one digital transaction.

Following the launch, TRANSCO management and staff travelled on Line 31 from Masina Quartier 3 to Maluku, covering more than 50 kilometres while engaging with regulators and ticket inspectors along the route.

The introduction of QR code-based ticketing forms part of TRANSCO’s broader digital transformation efforts, aimed at improving transparency in revenue collection, strengthening operational monitoring and delivering a more efficient passenger experience.
