GIZ Malawi has expanded its AI and digital skills programme to Mzuzu, supporting micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) as they explore the use of emerging technologies to strengthen business operations and competitiveness.

The second AI & Digital Solutions Lab brought together 24 entrepreneurs from Nkhotakota, Rumphi, Karonga and Mzuzu at the Mzuzu University Tourism Incubation Centre.

Participants received practical training on using AI tools to improve areas including marketing, customer engagement and financial management. The programme places particular emphasis on supporting women-led and green businesses as they adapt to an increasingly digital economy.

The Mzuzu session follows an earlier AI and Digital Solutions Lab in Lilongwe, where more than 70 women entrepreneurs gained practical AI skills and developed digital adaptation plans for their businesses.

The initiative is supported by German Development Cooperation through the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union, and is implemented by GIZ Malawi under the MIERA III and IYBA WE4A programmes.

The next AI and Digital Solutions Lab is scheduled to take place in Blantyre on 19 August, extending the programme’s efforts to build practical digital and AI capabilities among Malawi’s entrepreneurs.
