Global identity verification platform Sumsub has launched South Africa Bank Account Verification (BAV), a document-free service designed to help businesses confirm bank account ownership and status in real time.
The solution uses South Africa’s Account Verification Service (AVS) infrastructure to validate customer banking details without requiring bank statements, document uploads, screen scraping or online banking credentials.
During onboarding, customers provide details including their South African ID or passport number, surname, bank and account number, with the information checked against banking infrastructure connected to the SARB ecosystem.
Sumsub says the service can return verification indicators within seconds, including whether an account exists and is active, whether the identity and surname match, whether the account accepts credits and debits, and the account’s tenure.
The solution is aimed at regulated sectors including banking, fintech, payments, lending, gaming and e-commerce, supporting use cases such as customer due diligence, payout validation, beneficiary verification, refunds and fraud prevention.
