Vodacom Group has announced changes to its board, including the appointment of former Airtel Africa Group CEO Segun Ogunsanya as an independent non-executive director, effective 9 October 2026.
Ogunsanya brings more than 35 years of leadership experience across telecommunications, banking, finance, consumer goods and corporate governance. He previously served as Group CEO and Managing Director of Airtel Africa until his retirement in June 2024.
His appointment follows the retirement of Phuthi Mahanyele-Dabengwa from the Vodacom board on 8 October 2026. Mahanyele-Dabengwa joined the board in 2019 and served as chair of the Remuneration Committee and a member of the Nomination Committee.
Vodacom has also outlined future leadership changes, with Chairman Saki Macozoma set to retire from the board following the company’s annual general meeting in July 2027. Lead independent director Khumo Shuenyane will succeed him as chairman from 21 July 2027.
The board changes form part of Vodacom’s ongoing governance and leadership transition as the group continues to strengthen its board experience and oversight across its operations.
