Egypt has unveiled an ambitious digital transformation roadmap aimed at expanding e-government services, accelerating AI adoption, strengthening digital infrastructure and positioning the country as a regional technology hub.
Speaking during a meeting with the American Chamber of Commerce in Cairo, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Eng. Raafat Hendy said the ministry’s strategy is built on five pillars: digital transformation, technology localization and job creation, digital infrastructure, digital skills development, and legislation and governance.
Egypt plans to increase digital government services from the current 242 to more than 270 by the end of 2026 and approximately 450 by 2030, while expanding digital identity and electronic signature services to improve public service delivery and attract investment.
The country is also scaling local technology manufacturing, targeting annual mobile phone production of more than 15 million devices in 2026 and 30 million by 2028, while increasing local manufacturing content to around 45%.
Artificial intelligence remains a key priority, with investments in Egypt’s National AI Strategy, the locally developed “Crank” large language model and AI applications across healthcare, agriculture and education.
The government is also expanding fibre connectivity, rolling out 5G infrastructure, strengthening cybersecurity, developing data centres and investing in digital skills programmes to support long-term economic growth.
