South Sudan has taken a major step toward next-generation connectivity with the conclusion of a two-day inception workshop to launch the development of the country’s National Spectrum Management and 5G Strategy.
Organised by the National Communication Authority (NCA), the workshop brought together representatives from the Ministry of ICT and Postal Services, the Eastern Africa Regional Digital Integration Project (EA-RDIP) and a team of experts led by telecommunications consultant Professor William Webb to lay the foundation for the country’s 5G deployment roadmap.
The discussions focused on international best practices for spectrum management and 5G implementation while developing a comprehensive framework covering governance, stakeholder engagement, work planning, implementation methodology and the technical requirements needed to support reliable next-generation mobile services.
Participants also highlighted the importance of strengthening cybersecurity, improving network quality and creating a conducive environment for increased investment in South Sudan’s digital infrastructure and telecommunications sector.
According to the National Communication Authority, the collaborative approach established during the workshop provides a strong foundation for the successful implementation of the strategy, supporting faster connectivity, expanded digital infrastructure and long-term economic growth through the adoption of 5G technology.
