Airtel Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the country’s digital transformation agenda following a courtesy visit by Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Soumendra Sahu to the newly appointed Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Rt. Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba.
During the meeting, Sahu congratulated the minister on her appointment and reaffirmed Airtel Uganda’s commitment to working closely with the government to accelerate digital inclusion, expand connectivity and improve access to digital services across the country.
A key area of discussion was increasing smartphone adoption, with both parties highlighting the growing role of smart devices in enabling access to education, digital financial services, entrepreneurship and participation in Uganda’s digital economy. Airtel Uganda noted that expanding smartphone access will help more Ugandans benefit from online learning, financial inclusion and other technology-driven opportunities.
The company also welcomed the minister’s recognition of Airtel Uganda’s continued investments in network expansion, digital innovation and initiatives that empower schools, young people and underserved communities through improved connectivity.
The engagement reflects Airtel Uganda’s ongoing partnership with the government to strengthen telecommunications infrastructure, bridge the digital divide and support Uganda’s broader ICT and digital development objectives.
