Vodacom has signed a new collaboration protocol with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to strengthen digital inclusion and accelerate telecommunications development across Africa.
The agreement was signed during the AI for Good Summit by Vodacom Group Chief External Affairs Officer Ayman Essam and ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau Director Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, reinforcing a shared commitment to expanding connectivity and supporting Africa’s digital transformation.
Under the protocol, Vodacom will share its expertise, operational experience and best practices from its operations across multiple African markets to support industry development and strengthen collaboration between the telecommunications sector and international development organisations.
The partnership will focus on key areas including digital inclusion, spectrum management, regulatory frameworks for satellite communications and expanding connectivity for education. Both organisations aim to work together to develop practical solutions that improve access to digital services while supporting sustainable socio-economic development across the continent.
Vodacom said the collaboration goes beyond policy discussions by focusing on real-world implementation that can help extend connectivity, promote financial inclusion and improve access to education through digital technologies.
As Africa continues to accelerate its digital transformation agenda, stronger collaboration between governments, regulators, industry players and international organisations is expected to play a critical role in closing the digital divide and creating more inclusive digital economies.
The partnership reflects Vodacom’s continued commitment to supporting sustainable connectivity initiatives while contributing to the development of resilient digital infrastructure across Africa.
