The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has launched the ManuTech UniPod in Nigeria, a new innovation hub designed to strengthen research, manufacturing and entrepreneurship while supporting the country’s industrial and technological development.
The facility was unveiled in partnership with the Abia State Government and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), bringing together government, academia and development partners to create an ecosystem where ideas, research and manufacturing can work together to solve real-world challenges.
According to UNDP, the ManuTech UniPod will provide a platform for innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs and students to develop technology-driven solutions that can contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.
The initiative is expected to encourage collaboration between universities, industry players and innovators while supporting the development of practical solutions that address local challenges and create new economic opportunities.
UNDP highlighted the importance of partnerships in advancing innovation-led development, recognising the role of the Abia State Government and TETFund in strengthening Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem. The organisation also acknowledged the support of Nigeria’s Ministry of Education in promoting research, innovation and stronger connections between higher education institutions and industry.
The launch of the ManuTech UniPod represents another step in Nigeria’s efforts to build a more innovation-driven economy by leveraging technology, research and entrepreneurship to accelerate industrial growth.
