Pinterest has introduced “Ask Pinterest,” an experimental AI-powered shopping application that reimagines product discovery through conversational interaction. The launch reflects the company’s broader push into generative AI as digital platforms compete to reshape how users search, explore inspiration, and make purchasing decisions online.

The new application extends Pinterest’s traditional visual search experience into a chatbot-style interface, allowing users to ask natural language questions and receive personalized recommendations. Built on Pinterest’s proprietary “Taste Graph,” the system analyzes user preferences, aesthetics, and behavior to deliver tailored suggestions that evolve over time.

Unlike conventional search tools, Ask Pinterest is designed to support more complex, multi-step discovery journeys such as planning events, styling spaces, or finding products aligned with specific themes. The tool retains context across sessions and can incorporate insights from saved Pins and Boards for more refined personalization.

The launch also highlights Pinterest’s growing investment in AI-driven advertising infrastructure. Alongside Ask Pinterest, the company introduced new tools including an AI assistant for Ads Manager, Performance+ Creative for automated ad optimization, and a Model Context Protocol (MCP) layer enabling integration with third-party AI systems for campaign management.

Currently in limited rollout via web access on desktop and mobile, Ask Pinterest is being positioned as a testing ground for future AI experiences across the platform. The initiative signals a shift toward context-driven discovery, where personalization, intent, and user taste increasingly replace keyword-based search in shaping digital shopping behavior.
