The Global Settlement Network (GSN) has announced a landmark partnership with Diacente Group to tokenize $5.5 billion worth of real-world infrastructure assets across Africa, signaling a major shift toward digital transformation in key economic sectors. The initiative will bring assets from agriculture, renewable energy, minerals, and logistics onto blockchain infrastructure, creating a secure and scalable environment for investment and economic participation. This marks one of the most ambitious tokenization efforts on the continent, positioning blockchain as a foundational pillar for Africa’s future economic growth.
This transformative partnership will launch Africa’s largest tokenized infrastructure economy beginning in Uganda, where a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) pilot will be introduced. The CBDC, backed by Ugandan treasury bonds, is designed to establish a sovereign-backed digital financial ecosystem focused on inclusivity and accessibility. By prioritizing mobile-first access, the project aims to empower citizens and businesses with secure and efficient financial tools aligned with modern economic needs.
Through this initiative, GSN and Diacente Group are pioneering a sovereign-first digital infrastructure model that integrates blockchain with national economic frameworks. This approach is expected to enhance transparency, eliminate inefficiencies, and open new channels for cross-border investment. By digitizing physical assets and linking them to trusted financial systems, the partnership is creating long-term value for investors while enabling governments to leverage next-generation technology for infrastructure development.
The tokenization of real-world assets is projected to accelerate economic inclusion by providing liquidity, democratizing access to investment opportunities, and supporting sustainable development goals. This ecosystem will empower African nations to leverage their natural and industrial assets in a way that attracts global capital, fosters innovation, and promotes resilient development across sectors.
With this launch, Uganda is set to become a global leader in blockchain-enabled infrastructure financing. The GSN-Diacente collaboration represents a pivotal moment for Africa’s digital future, as the continent takes decisive steps toward redefining how infrastructure is financed, built, and accessed in the digital age.
