Airtel Zambia PLC has partnered with the Ministry of Technology and Science in a landmark collaboration aimed at accelerating the nation’s digital transformation agenda. The partnership was unveiled at a high-level ceremony attended by Hon. Minister Felix Mutati, MP, Permanent Secretary Eng. Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu, and Airtel Zambia Muttal Group Chairman Mr. Sunil Bhatt. This collaboration is strategically focused on expanding digital infrastructure, enhancing financial inclusion, and driving innovation across Zambia.

As part of this initiative, Airtel Zambia has committed to building 350 new communication towers nationwide. This expansion is expected to significantly boost connectivity, especially in underserved rural areas, while supporting the national financial inclusion target of 80 percent within the next 12 months. By bridging connectivity gaps, the project will empower more citizens with access to financial services, digital platforms, and economic opportunities, aligning with Zambia’s broader digital economy ambitions.

The partnership also extends beyond infrastructure, with a strong focus on innovation and human capital development. Airtel Zambia will facilitate training opportunities for Zambian technology start-ups in India, equipping entrepreneurs with practical skills to strengthen the country’s digital capacity. Additionally, this initiative will stimulate job creation, expand participation in e-commerce, and improve access to government services, further embedding digital transformation into Zambia’s socio-economic fabric.

Government leaders praised Airtel’s contribution to the nation’s digital progress. Minister Mutati highlighted the transformative role of digital access in education, particularly for rural communities, while Permanent Secretary Eng. Dr. Habeenzu commended Airtel’s resilience in advancing technology amid national challenges such as drought. He further emphasized the government’s readiness to collaborate on smart energy solutions to support reliable services. This partnership stands as a clear demonstration of how public-private collaboration can bridge the digital divide, unlock innovation, and drive inclusive growth, positioning Zambia as a leader in regional digital transformation.
