PalmPay, a leading pan-African fintech operating in Nigeria, Ghana, and Egypt, has announced the appointment of Femi Hanson as the new head of marketing and public relations for its Nigerian subsidiary. With five years of fintech marketing experience and a proven track record from leading marketing teams at OPay and Moni, Hanson brings deep expertise in driving impactful campaigns in Nigeria’s fast-growing digital economy.
Hanson’s role at PalmPay comes at a pivotal time, as Nigeria continues to be the fintech’s largest and most dynamic market. The platform has already amassed an impressive 35 million users and onboarded 1.2 million businesses. His appointment is expected to further strengthen PalmPay’s connection with its diverse customer base while advancing its mission of enhancing financial inclusion across the country.
PalmPay’s success story began in 2019 with a $40 million seed investment from Tecno, which also facilitated a strategic partnership with Transsion Holdings. This collaboration enabled the app to be pre-installed on millions of smartphones from Tecno, Infinix, and Itel, solidifying its position in the market. Combined with competitive offerings like discounted transfers and free wallet-to-wallet transactions, PalmPay rapidly gained traction among Nigerian users.
In addition to its payments platform, PalmPay has diversified its offerings with digital lending services featuring interest rates ranging from 15-30%. These services played a key role in meeting consumer demands during Nigeria’s 2023 currency redesign policy, when fintechs like PalmPay filled the gap left by traditional banks struggling with increased online transactions.
PalmPay’s achievements have not gone unnoticed. The fintech was recently named among the seven African companies on CNBC’s prestigious list of the top 250 global fintech firms. This recognition highlights PalmPay’s exceptional growth, solidifying its position as a leader in Africa’s burgeoning fintech ecosystem.
Hanson shared his excitement about the journey ahead, stating, “Joining PalmPay at this stage of its incredible journey is a tremendous honour. I am excited to build on the company’s strong foundation and contribute to its mission of delivering seamless financial solutions to millions of Nigerian consumers and businesses.” His appointment signals PalmPay’s commitment to scaling new heights as it continues to redefine financial inclusion across Africa.
