Vodacom Group has launched a transformative initiative to address Africa’s digital skills gap, partnering with leading organizations like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft, and Skillsoft. Through the Vodacom Digital Skills Hub, the program aims to train one million young people aged 18 to 35 by 2027, equipping them with critical digital skills to thrive in the evolving global economy. This ambitious initiative will span eight African countries, including South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia.

The Vodacom Digital Skills Hub offers self-paced, accessible digital training to empower the next generation of African innovators. It is part of Vodacom’s commitment to enhancing digital literacy and creating opportunities for underserved populations. By providing quality, scalable e-learning solutions, Vodacom is addressing a crucial need for accessible education across the continent.

In addition to the Digital Skills Hub, Vodacom is expanding its reach through platforms like Talimy in Egypt, VodaEduc in Tanzania, and e-Fahamu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. These platforms are tailored to diverse learning needs, ensuring that young people in underserved regions gain access to quality education and skill-building opportunities.

Vodacom recognizes Africa’s digital transformation as a vital driver of economic growth and social development. CEO Shameel Joosub highlighted the continent’s unique demographic advantage, with over 400 million young people, and stressed that equipping them with digital skills can address critical challenges such as unemployment, gender inequality, and limited access to services.

Matimba Mbungela, Vodacom’s Chief Human Resources Officer, emphasized the importance of building a pipeline of talent to support the continent’s transition into the digital economy. By empowering Africa’s youth with essential skills, Vodacom is paving the way for a future of inclusive growth and development while positioning Africa as a competitive player in the global tech landscape.

This initiative is a testament to Vodacom’s commitment to leveraging technology for good. By bridging the digital skills gap and fostering innovation, the program is not only transforming lives but also contributing to Africa’s broader economic and social progress.
