Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Information and Communications Technology and the Digital Economy, John Tanui, met with a Malaysian delegation led by Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Ruzaimi Mohamad, ahead of the summit. The delegation also included Wan Murdani Mohamad, Vice President of the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation, further solidifying the partnership between the two nations.
The MoU aims to drive digital transformation in Kenya by enabling greater access to Malaysia’s expertise in the digital economy. Both countries are keen to explore new digital export opportunities, with the agreement expected to significantly boost collaboration between Kenya and Malaysia in the tech industry. The Malaysian delegation visited key tech hubs in Kenya, including the Konza Technopolis and Equity Bank, as part of their efforts to understand Kenya’s growing tech ecosystem. These visits underline the importance of building strong partnerships and leveraging Kenya’s rapidly expanding digital infrastructure to support economic growth across the continent.
The Kenya ICT Network Board of Trustees previously met with senior Malaysian authorities in June, laying the groundwork for this partnership. As part of the agreement, Kenyan enterprises will gain access to Malaysia’s digital expertise, while Malaysian firms will tap into Kenya’s vibrant tech industry, offering a mutually beneficial opportunity for both countries.
