The London Internet Exchange (LINX) has officially launched its exclusive Microsoft Azure Peering Service (MAPS) at LINX Nairobi, marking a significant enhancement in the digital landscape of Kenya. As an official partner of Microsoft, LINX has successfully deployed this innovative solution in multiple locations, including London, Manchester, and LINX NoVA in Northern Virginia. This expansion underlines LINX’s commitment to addressing the evolving needs of the local network community.
LINX is among the few official partners offering the MAPS solution in Africa, and the organization is enthusiastic about providing further network solutions to LINX Nairobi members. The positive feedback from local networks has exceeded expectations, leading LINX to expedite the rollout of additional services. This demand for connectivity illustrates the increasing need for reliable network solutions in the region.
The MAPS solution is particularly well-suited for Kenya’s ecosystem, delivering a low-latency peering service with direct connections to Microsoft (AS8075) without imposing minimum traffic requirements. This unique offering has garnered significant interest from local Internet Service Providers (ISPs), and LINX plans to broaden its outreach to include fintech and enterprise networks in the region shortly.
Mike Hellers, Product Development Manager at LINX, emphasized that MAPS enables networks to enhance connectivity and improve end-user experiences with critical services such as Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, and Teams. The introduction of MAPS comes almost a year after the official launch of LINX Nairobi in November 2023, which has successfully attracted a diverse range of local ISPs, global carriers, and anticipated content delivery networks like Meta.
By launching MAPS, LINX not only strengthens its service offerings in Kenya but also contributes to the growth and development of the digital infrastructure in the region. This initiative is expected to drive innovation and improve access to essential digital services for businesses and individuals alike.
As LINX continues to expand its presence in Africa, the organization remains committed to fostering connectivity and collaboration within the local network community, paving the way for a more interconnected and digitally empowered future.
