VRwanda has taken a significant step in advancing its technology sector with the groundbreaking ceremony of Kigali Innovation City (KIC). This $300 million project aims to establish one of Africa’s premier innovation hubs, positioning Rwanda as a leader in technological growth and development.
KIC is set to become a central technology, research, and innovation hub in Africa, with projections to create over 50,000 jobs and generate $150 million in technology exports within the next two years. The project is backed by Africa50 and the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa, highlighting its importance and scale.
Referred to as Rwanda’s Silicon Valley, KIC is an initiative spearheaded by the Rwanda Development Board (RDB). The RDB is a key government institution focused on attracting, retaining, and facilitating investment to drive the national economy. This ambitious project underscores Rwanda’s commitment to becoming a leading player in the global technology landscape.
Francis Gatare, Executive Director and CEO of RDB, described the KIC project as a transformative milestone for both Rwanda and the broader continent. He emphasized that this development represents a new era in innovation and economic growth.
