Liquid Intelligent Technologies has completed a significant upgrade to its 1,300-kilometer fibre route, enhancing the connectivity between Mombasa on Kenya’s east coast and Busia on the Ugandan border. This expansion is set to substantially increase the region’s multi-terabit capacity and resilience, playing a crucial role in the area’s digital transformation.
The upgraded fibre route ensures 99.99% uptime availability of services, strengthening Liquid’s position in providing reliable and high-capacity networks across the region. This improvement is expected to support various critical business sectors, enhancing both digital infrastructure and economic development.
Adil El Youssefi, CEO of Liquid Intelligent Technologies: Rest of Africa, highlighted that the enhanced connectivity would bolster business operations and support digital transformation across East Africa. He emphasized that this investment aligns with Kenya’s digital transformation initiatives by contributing essential infrastructure for digital superhighways and service digitisation.
Kenya’s role as a leading digital and connectivity hub in East Africa is further reinforced by this new fibre route, which complements existing terrestrial routes and supports the growing data traffic. The upgraded infrastructure positions Kenya as a key player in the region’s connectivity landscape, facilitating growth and development.
Liquid’s new fibre route incorporates advanced technology to handle multiple terabits of data, providing a scalable solution for diverse customer needs, including retail, home, enterprise, and wholesale segments. This expansion also strategically positions Liquid to support international hyperscalers entering the African market.
The development underscores Liquid Intelligent Technologies’ commitment to enhancing connectivity and supporting the digital economy in East Africa. With the new fibre route, the company is well-positioned to drive further growth and opportunity in the region.
