Mzuzu E-hub, a prominent Malawian social enterprise, is celebrating a significant achievement in its journey of empowering young talent. The organization has successfully trained over 1,000 young people in basic digital skills, marking a pivotal milestone in its mission to enhance digital literacy across Malawi. This success underscores the impact of Mzuzu E-hub’s commitment to equipping the youth with essential skills for the digital age.

The initiative, known as ‘Digital Skills for All,’ is supported by the Malawian government through the Public Private Partnership Commission under the Digital Malawi Project and is funded by the World Bank. Initially launched in Mzuzu City, the program has expanded to all districts in the northern region of Malawi, including Likoma and Chizumulu islands, reflecting its growing reach and influence.

Litness Chaima, Mzuzu E-hub’s communications and engagement manager, highlighted that the project’s initial goal was to train 540 young individuals. However, the initiative has far surpassed this target, reaching over 1,100 participants. The training encompasses a range of digital skills, including computer programming, digital marketing, website and graphic design, data management, and end-user computing. Additionally, enterprise development topics such as finance management, leadership, communication, branding, and strategic planning are also covered.

Since 2020, the government and the World Bank have provided crucial financial and asset support, enabling the program’s expansion across the northern region. Chaima emphasized the importance of community involvement, noting that youth leaders and District Youth Offices have played a vital role in mobilizing and selecting participants for the program.

To measure the program’s impact, Mzuzu E-hub has established a dedicated management and engagement team that conducts follow-ups with graduates every six months. This process tracks key metrics such as employment rates, income growth, job creation, and any additional support needed by the graduates.

Looking ahead, Mzuzu E-hub aims to replicate its success on a broader scale by partnering with other organizations to establish satellite hubs. This expansion will allow the enterprise to deliver training to even more young people across Malawi, furthering its mission to foster digital skills and entrepreneurship throughout the country.
