MTN Uganda and the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) have initiated discussions on a potential partnership aimed at increasing investment in Uganda’s capital markets. This collaboration seeks to broaden public understanding of the capital markets, often perceived as accessible only to a privileged few, and make them more inclusive for all Ugandans.

The talks, led by Sylvia Mulinge, CEO of MTN Uganda, and Josephine Okui Ossiya, CEO of CMA, focused on regulatory and development issues within the sector. Both leaders expressed optimism about the potential outcomes of this partnership, highlighting the importance of empowering more Ugandans with knowledge and opportunities in the capital markets.

While specific details of the collaboration are still under wraps, the meeting marked a significant step forward in aligning MTN’s extensive reach with CMA’s regulatory expertise. This alignment is expected to open up new avenues for Ugandans to participate in the capital markets, fostering greater financial inclusion.

Josephine Okui Ossiya emphasized the exciting prospects that lie ahead as the two organizations work together to empower Ugandans. She underscored the importance of education and access in driving economic growth and development through capital markets.

MTN echoed this sentiment, noting that the collaboration would provide more opportunities for Ugandans to engage with and benefit from the capital markets. The company is committed to continuing its relationship with the CMA and making tangible progress in this area.

This partnership, once formalized, could transform the landscape of Uganda’s capital markets, making them more accessible and attractive to a broader segment of the population, thereby contributing to the country’s overall economic growth.
