Angola Cables has achieved a significant milestone with data traffic across its network reaching a record peak of 18,448 Tbps. This achievement has elevated Angola Cables to the 24th position in the Center for Applied Internet Data Analysis (CAIDA) global rankings, making it the only African network operator in the top 50.

The surge in traffic is driven by increased digital content consumption, the expansion of cloud computing services, and rising demands for high-speed, low-latency connectivity. This growth highlights Angola Cables’ ability to meet the evolving needs of its customers in West Africa and beyond, reinforcing its position as a reliable operator.

Fernando Fernandes, CEO of TelCables Nigeria, emphasized that this milestone reflects Angola Cables’ commitment to delivering superior connectivity, security, and product diversity. The enhanced Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and strong relationships with both local and international customers are testament to the company’s resilience and market leadership.

Rui Faria, Executive Board Member and Chief Commercial Officer for Angola Cables, noted that the company’s network is increasingly used by hyperscalers, content providers, and carriers as a key connectivity option to the USA, UK, Europe, and Asia. Recent cable faults in Africa and the Red Sea have further underscored the reliability of Angola Cables’ infrastructure.

Angola Cables’ fibre network now handles over 70% of internet and data traffic flows to and from Africa. The Monet Cable, linking the USA to South America, accounts for more than 20% of data traffic between these regions, showcasing the network’s growing importance in global data transit.

With the EllaLink subsea cable offering reduced latencies and connectivity to major European centres, Angola Cables is positioned as a critical player in international data traffic. This development underscores the company’s role in advancing global connectivity and meeting the demands of the digital age.
