Sistema.bio, Africa’s leading biodigester company, has successfully expanded its biodigester technology solutions into West and Southern Africa, becoming the continent’s largest biodigester company. This strategic expansion aims to address energy challenges, promote environmental sustainability, and support access to affordable, clean, and modern cooking solutions across Africa.

In a significant partnership with Engie Access, an off-grid energy services company, Sistema.bio has introduced biogas digesters in Zambia and Mozambique. This collaboration, supported by the Modern Clean Cooking Facility for Africa (MCFA), targets over 10,000 smallholder farmers, enhancing their access to clean energy solutions and contributing to sustainable agricultural practices.

In Zimbabwe, Sistema.bio’s growth is further bolstered by implementation partners Lanforce Energy, with an ambitious plan to install over 2500 biodigesters within four years. This initiative highlights Sistema.bio’s commitment to creating impactful energy solutions that benefit local communities and promote environmental conservation.

Expanding into West Africa, Sistema.bio has partnered with Farmerline in Ghana and SNV Netherlands Development Organisation in Nigeria. The successful installation of the first biodigesters in Nigeria in July 2024 marks a transformative step towards sustainable agriculture and renewable energy adoption in the region, paving the way for further development and growth.

Madrin Maina, Sistema.bio’s Director in Africa, emphasized the company’s innovative approach, stating that their biodigester technology creates business models to accelerate clean and reliable energy access across Africa. The scalable and adaptable technology empowers smallholder farmers, improving their livelihoods and contributing to the broader goal of energy sustainability.

The impact of Sistema.bio’s biodigester technology is substantial, contributing to 9 out of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These include SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land). Sistema.bio’s innovative solutions continue to drive progress towards a sustainable and prosperous future for communities across Africa.
