Three Tanzanian startups have emerged victorious in the Vodacom Digital Accelerator Program 2024, demonstrating their potential to become revenue-generating businesses. AltituteX, represented by Frank Mussa, Afya Lead Co-Founder, and Lusekelo Nkuwi from GO GO App, have been recognized for their innovative contributions to Tanzania’s startup ecosystem. Established by Vodacom Tanzania in 2019, the Vodacom Digital Accelerator Program aims to nurture early-stage and growth-stage startups, providing them with essential support to thrive in the competitive digital landscape.

This year’s program commenced with 20 promising startups, ultimately narrowing down to seven finalists after an intensive selection process. These finalists underwent a rigorous three-month journey that included workshops, mentorship sessions, and a transformative learning tour in Shenzhen, China, where they explored cutting-edge technology and 5G networks, fostering new ideas and technological possibilities within Tanzania.

Partnering with MassChallenge, Huawei, and various ventures and accelerators, the Vodacom Digital Accelerator Program 2024 exemplifies collaboration aimed at empowering Tanzanian startups. According to Philip Besiimire, Managing Director of Vodacom Tanzania, the program celebrates innovation, hard work, and the promising future of Tanzanian youth-led startups. Besiimire emphasized Vodacom Tanzania’s dedication to nurturing startups by providing access to local and international industry experts, mentorship, training, and leveraging partner networks, including M-PESA services.

The three winning startups will further their growth trajectory with an opportunity to travel to the United States in September 2024. During this trip, they will engage with mentors and potential investors, paving the way for strategic partnerships and investment opportunities to advance their businesses. This initiative underscores Vodacom Tanzania’s commitment to supporting the local innovation ecosystem and fostering economic growth through entrepreneurship.

Reflecting on the burgeoning innovation landscape in Tanzania, Besiimire highlighted the overwhelming response to this year’s program, with over 200 applications received. This underscores the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit and hunger for growth among Tanzanian startups, positioning the country as a hub of innovation and opportunity in the region.
