Jubilee Insurance has announced the launch of the 2024 edition of the Live Free Art Competition, offering Kenya’s school-going children a chance to compete for scholarships worth three million shillings. Last year saw over 10,000 students from 300 schools across 19 counties participate, and this year aims to draw 15,000 entries from Grades 1 to 4 under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
The competition’s top ten winners will be awarded full high school scholarships, valued at Sh3 million, highlighting Jubilee Insurance’s commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting educational excellence through artistic expression.
The creative economy, encompassing art, design, media, and entertainment, is a pivotal driver of economic growth and innovation globally. In Kenya, this sector contributes approximately 5% to the national GDP and supports about 25% of total wage employment, underscoring its significant role in sustainable development and cultural enrichment.
Asman Mugambi, CEO of Jubilee Life Insurance, emphasized the importance of investing in the creative sector to foster sustainable development and economic prosperity. He expressed pride in the competition’s impact over the past four years, celebrating the remarkable talent and creativity displayed by Kenyan children.
The Live Free Art Competition not only encourages artistic expression but also promotes critical thinking and creativity among young learners. Participants will create original artworks using various mediums such as painting, drawing, collage, or mixed media, utilizing materials like watercolours, crayons, charcoal, and more.
