Epson is set to revolutionize the inkjet printing industry with a significant investment of KES 4.2 billion in a new factory at Tohoku Epson. The construction, which began on June 15, 2024, and is slated for completion by September 2025, aims to quadruple the current printhead production capacity, reinforcing Epson’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

Mukesh Bector, Epson’s Regional Head for East and West Africa, emphasized that this new facility will not only enhance production capabilities but also significantly lower the environmental impact of digital printing. The factory will feature a newly engineered process to save manpower and space, incorporating automated transfer robots and an efficient layout to minimize the workload on personnel.

Epson’s printing solutions business, renowned for its original Micro Piezo inkjet technology, caters to customers across office, home, commercial, and industrial markets. With growing global demand for high-speed and high-capacity inkjet printers, especially in emerging markets and North America, this investment comes at a crucial time.

Commercial and industrial inkjet printer demand is surging as the industry transitions from analog to digital printing. Epson’s PrecisionCore MicroTFP printheads, known for their flexibility and adaptability, are at the forefront of this shift, with increasing use in various applications, including digital textile printing and beyond.

Epson is not only boosting its production capacity but also strengthening its printhead sales business to accelerate inkjet innovation. By fostering open innovation and collaborating with partners on new ideas and technologies, Epson aims to expand the possibilities of PrecisionCore technology in diverse areas such as electronics and bioprinting.

The new Tohoku Epson factory will enhance Epson’s competitive advantage and ensure stable production. With a strategic approach to production continuity and capacity expansion, Epson is poised to meet the growing global demand for advanced inkjet printers, driving the future of digital printing technology.
