Kenya Airways Resumes Flights on Nairobi-Maputo Route

Kenya Airways has resumed flights to Maputo, Mozambique, marking a significant step in its intra-Africa connectivity strategy. Starting today, the national carrier will operate three weekly flights on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, connecting travelers from Nairobi and vice versa.

Allan Kilavuka, KQ Group Managing Director and CEO, expressed excitement about the airline’s 45th destination: “Today’s launch is a tangible testament to KQ’s remarkable progress and the exciting future ahead. As we unveil Maputo, we mark a major milestone in our network expansion journey.”

The new route will complement KQ’s existing services in Nampula, Mozambique, enhancing travel options and connectivity within the region.

Julius Thairu, KQ Chief Commercial and Customer Officer, highlighted the airline’s mission to propel Africa’s prosperity: “The demand for air travel is soaring, and we’re determined to meet it by expanding our reach and fostering connections between Africa’s rich cultures and thriving economies. Adding Maputo to our network strengthens ties between Kenya and Mozambique, opening doors for increased trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.”

Aviation plays a critical role in boosting national GDPs, creating jobs, and stimulating economic activity. Kilavuka emphasized, “Increased intra-African travel will act as a catalyst for economic development across the continent.”

Kenya Airways has been expanding its network across Africa, with popular destinations such as New York, Paris, Lagos, Accra, and Freetown. This expansion underscores KQ’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and facilitating easier movement of people and goods.
