Namibia Launches Significant Spaceport Project

In a historic move, Eos Capital, managers of the Namibia Infrastructure Development and Investment Fund (NIDIF), has been granted permission to embark on the Namibia Space Port project. This project, led by Q-KON Namibia, marks a significant leap forward for the country in the realm of satellite communications.

Namibia’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Emma Theofelus, hailed the initiative as a monumental stride towards unlocking the potential of space technology for Namibia and Africa’s communication capabilities. The project aligns with Namibia’s National Space Science and Technology Policy, showcasing the nation’s commitment to innovation and sustainable development.

Frederico Van Wyk, Chief Investment Officer of Eos Capital, emphasized the project’s importance in advancing digital inclusion and connectivity across Namibia. This investment underscores Eos Capital’s dedication to fostering economic growth and innovation in the country.

The Namibia Space Port project is a key component of NIDIF’s broader ICT sector strategy, aiming to position Namibia at the forefront of technological advancement. This strategic initiative reflects Eos Capital’s mission to drive investments that propel Namibia into the future while delivering positive returns to investors.

As the project unfolds, Q-KON Namibia, a CRAN-licensed satellite service provider, is poised to emerge as a significant player in the rapidly expanding Low Earth Orbit (LEO) sector. With 36 projects and over 63,000 satellites planned for launch, the LEO industry holds immense potential for growth in Sub-Saharan Africa.
